About This Place

Located in the vibrant heart of Charlotte’s Monroe Road corridor, Tipsy Burro serves up a delightful Tex-Mex experience that perfectly marries authentic flavors with a lively, unpretentious atmosphere. This cozy restaurant and bar invites guests to indulge in a diverse menu featuring bold, southwestern-inspired dishes that are both familiar and refreshingly inventive.

From the very first bite, the flavors at Tipsy Burro captivate the senses. Signature dishes like the Southwestern Burrito—a warm flour tortilla wrapped around egg, roasted potatoes, shredded cheese, and black bean salsa—offer a satisfying blend of hearty textures and rich, comforting tastes. The Quesadilla and Taco Plate burst with fresh ingredients and expertly balanced spices, while the Frito Pie and Chimichanga Plate bring a playful indulgence to the table. For those seeking plant-based options, the Vegan Burrito & Nachos are a standout, demonstrating that delicious, thoughtful vegan fare can hold its own in a traditionally meat-heavy menu.

The bar program shines just as brightly, with the Top Shelf Margarita offering a perfect harmony of tangy citrus and premium spirits—a must-try for cocktail enthusiasts. Pair it with sides like Fried Street Corn or Chips and Salsa to round out a bold Tex-Mex feast.

Beyond the food, Tipsy Burro cultivates a warm and welcoming vibe that keeps locals and visitors alike coming back. Whether you're joining for a lively Saturday night accompanied by live bands—as praised by Ed B for “excellent portion sizes” and a salsa verde with a pleasing kick—or enjoying the casual, eclectic charm noted by Amy Fitzgerald, the atmosphere feels effortlessly inviting. Regulars like Addison Chitester appreciate the weekly trivia nights, highlighting the vibrant community spirit that effortlessly blends great food, drinks, and engaging entertainment.

Vegetarian diners will also find thoughtful options here, with Kelsie L sharing how the chef crafted a black bean burger from scratch that was “so good” well before a local Checkers game, showcasing the kitchen’s commitment to accommodating all tastes.

While some service moments, like missing sides during a brunch meal, have been noted by guests like Hunt Blatz, the overall experience at Tipsy Burro remains positive and memorable, with friendly staff and an upbeat ambiance that elevates every visit.

For anyone craving authentic Tex-Mex with a spirited local twist, Tipsy Burro offers an engaging culinary journey—whether you come for the food, the margaritas, the live music, or the trivia nights. This is more than a restaurant; it’s a vibrant neighborhood gem where bold flavors and genuine hospitality converge.

I like this place a lot for many reasons. It's Saturday night and there is a live band. Portions size was excellent for the price. My wife and I enjoyed the chips, salsa and queso. Salsa had a great flavor. The Saturday enchilada special had a nice little kick to the salsa verde and the recommended egg on top was a great addition. Will come back the next time we are in town.

Don't let the outside appearance keep you from visiting this place. It may not be fancy, but the food was very good and eclectic style eye appealing. I will definitely visit again.

I have been here countless of time for trivia, I do not always get food from there, however when I do It does not disappoint. The trivia on Wednesdays is really fun and I would highly recommend going! this is such a great local spot, the people and the atmosphere is so cool. menus is limited but I have never seen a problem with it, because I mainly go for trivia, a lot of different categories for trivia, so many opportunities for everyone to answer! I would highly recommend going!

Came here before a Checkers game and it was great! Good margaritas and the chef even made a black bean burger for my vegetarian friend from scratch that tasted so good!

20251019: I was in a group of 5 who went to the Tipsy Burro to listen to Redd Volkaert play Honkt Tonk at a Sunday brunch. I had the breakfast tacos, three friends had enchiladas and one had French toast. The tacos and enchiladas were good - all happy. My tacos were to come with a small side of diced fruit - it never came. The French toast was to come with butter and maple syrup - that never came either. We had to ask repeatedly for ice tea and water. While our waitress was not very attentive, the other staff members were glad to help, bringing the tea, water, butter and syrup. The music was excellent, and the place was packed with interest stuff, like a Waylon Jennings leather jacket.

Really cool spot. Basically a dive bar with better than average food. Fish tacos on Fridays are great. Quesadillas are generally good, a little more hit or miss than I really like but never bad. Frito pie is a hit. Good, cold beer where there’s no need for them to ask if you want a glass. Trivia night is also fun.

Such a fun dive bar to get some food and drinks at. Prices are reasonable and service is attentive. Big parking lot too! Live music most Saturday nights.
